The Art of Writing Genre Fiction

Join me for six Monday evening classes to enhance your ability to write brilliant genre fiction. MAX 12 Participants.

Week One - January 15th (6-8pm GMT):

The magical & the mundane: discover the unique art to writing fairy tales (and fairy tale adaptations) the techniques of which curiously contradict the "rules" of most creative writing classes for "normal" novels... 

Week Two - January 22nd (6-8pm GMT):

The fantastical: discover how to utilise fantastical tropes in new and exciting ways, with a focus on portal fantasies such as The Chronicles of Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, Stardust and many more...

Week Three - January 29th (6-8pm GMT):

The tragic hero & the fatal flaw: discover how to create compelling and sympathetic flawed characters, with an emphasis on stories with sorrowful but satisfying endings. (Read/watch Remains of the Day, if possible)

Week Four - February 12th (6-8pm GMT):

The comic hero & how to write comedy: discover the art of all the multitudinous ways to write comedy - inject comedic moments into your novel or learn how to write an out-and-out comedy. Especially suited to fans of P.G. Wodehouse, Nora Ephron, Douglas Adams, Ben Elton, Nick Hornby, Nina Stibbe... 

Week Five - February 19th (6-8pm GMT):

How to Write Historical Fiction: discover how to balance research with writing, the best way to write historical description, along with the pitfalls to avoid in order to write the most compelling historical fiction you possibly can.

Week Six - February 26th (6-8pm GMT):

The Art of Suspense: discover the three necessary factors in creating suspenseful thrillers, along with how to inject suspense into all your stories to keep your reader turning those pages till 3am...
